Have opportunities increased with the rapid advent of Deepseek or should we be more worried?

On one hand, it opens up new opportunities, driving innovation and efficiency, while disrupting the AI market bringing a significantly cheaper alternative to the current options. On the other hand, it presents challenges like privacy concerns. It’s not about choosing between opportunities and worries, but rather finding a way to navigate both for a better future. We must remain vigilant, proactive, and adaptable to ensure that Deepseek serves as a tool for progress and not a source of new problems. Remember, it’s not the technology itself, but how we use it that will determine the future.

The advent of Deepseek should be celebrated. It shows that the tech giants do not have a monopoly on powerful AI models and proves the value of being AI agnostic. It is better to understand the limits and nuances of your model, and to adapt your prompts accordingly. If you are planning to use the tool for researching something politically sensitive, maybe don’t use deepseek, but for a literary project, maybe you should. After all, any AI today is better than what was available two years ago, and large language models are merely tools. Like any tool, what matters is how you use them.

Deepseek has created opportunities for countries and research teams who do not have the same resources as the USA. Before, the USA was seen as the main leader in AI, but now, since Deepseek is open-source, anyone can access state of the art technology without needing the same level of investment. This evens the playing field, driving more innovation and competition worldwide. However it also comes with risks in security, potential misuse, and shifting global power dynamics. While it’s exciting that AI is more accessible, we also need to be careful about how this technology is used.
